About the organisation

Variety NSW/ACT have been making a difference to the lives of children for 46 years. They deliver programs, kids’ experiences, grants, and scholarships to allow kids who are sick, experiencing disadvantage, or living with a disability to learn, move, grow, play, laugh, and live a full life. Their mission is to allow all kids a fair go, believing no child should fall through the gaps. This year, the work of Variety NSW/ACT impacted the lives of 30,000 children with around $3 million spent on helping those in need. It is through Variety's amazing efforts that they have had remarkable success over this year and as a result, the team is excited to be growing for 2023!

The Role and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of Operations, the Receptionist provides reception and administration support and superior customer service in responding to incoming queries promptly and efficiently, representing Variety the Children’s Charity NSW / ACT (Variety) in a highly professional manner. This will be achieved by working with the Head of Operations, internal contacts (such as Variety staff) and external contacts (such as families, corporate supporters, donors, regulatory bodies, consultants, and industry associations). Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
  • Meeting and greeting visitors to the Variety offices
  • Answering all calls into the main switchboard, directing calls as necessary
  • Managing email inboxes, ensuring emails are responded to in a timely manner
  • General office administration, including mail, stationery, couriers, meeting organisation, WHS
  • Supporting the management of the volunteer database
Essential requirements

You will have a passion for making a difference in the lives of others and will love to work as part of a busy team. A positive approach and “can-do” attitude and a warm and welcoming manner are essential. Empathy and compassion are key requirements, as is a desire to help and get involved.
  • Previous experience in a similar Reception, Customer Service or Administration role
  • First-class verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in MS Office – Word and Excel essential
  • Able to work autonomously with strong time-management skills
  • Confident, enthusiastic, and professional
The successful candidate will be required to obtain a National Police Check (PC) and Working With Children’s Check (WWCC).
