Title: Litter Prevention Project Officer, Temporary - Part-time role up to 9 months, 21 hours per week

Salary Range: $86,867.36 to $100,954.29 pro-rata per annum + super (subject to skills and experience)

The Waste Management and Cleansing Services Unit provides a range of services relating to cleansing, waste and resource recovery, including collection services as well as being the key point of contact for the management of Kimbriki. It provides accurate and timely advice and uses better practice methods and procedures while developing new and innovative solutions. The Waste Management unit will deliver the following services:
  • Cleansing Services
  • Waste Management and Resource Recovery
  • Waste Education

The NSW Government have released the NSW Waste and Sustainable Materials Strategy, with a range of initiatives to move NSW towards a circular economy and minimise litter and environmental impact from waste. Northern Beaches Council is committed to delivering best practice in the areas of environment protection and sustainability and has been awarded funding under the NSW Government’s Litter Prevention Grant to build capacity and create a strategic road map for reducing litter on the Northern Beaches.


This initiative will transition Northern Beaches Council to having a clear strategic direction for litter prevention, with defined targets and mechanisms for success.

Our opportunity:
The key focus areas of this role include:
1) Project manage the development of a Northern Beaches Litter Prevention Roadmap. Ensure successful delivery against milestones and monitor the completion of project milestones against goals and initiate amendments where necessary.
2) Develop clear project proposals and define scope and goals in measurable terms.
3) Ensure strategic alignment with Northern Beaches Council and EPA policies, strategies and delivery plans.
4) Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to ascertain needs and deliver activities.
5) Produce a strategy roadmap document using the EPA guidelines and parameters that will guide Council in the next stage of litter prevention in the LGA
6) Commission research and development, such as a feasibility study or cost-benefit analysis, into any specific initiatives that the steering committee determine may be required for ongoing strategic implementation of litter prevention activities.

We’re looking for an independent, innovative and focused go-getter to join our Waste Management & Cleansing team. You’ll bring project management, documentation and stakeholder management skills into a litter prevention and sustainable waste management context, within a team passionate about making a difference to our community.

This is a temporary part time position. Ongoing employment beyond the term of the employment is not guaranteed.
