Production Supervisor [South Africa]


 

To plan, organise, motivate and control all the activities of their designated team efficiently to maintain maximum utilisation of resources in order to achieve maximum output. Ensure that all work carried out is as per SOP and that the required quality specifications are met

Tertiary qualification in Production or similar

Minimum of 3 to 5 years experience within manufacturing (automotive)

Delivery Productivity and WIP Age

People Targets Attendance, Return to Work Discussion and MDW

Participate in, Lead and Facilitate Work Teams (MDW Goal Alignment)

Participate in team problem solving

Develop team commitment and co-operation

Manage Quality Customer Service (Quality)

Implement and Monitor Continuous Improvement Systems and Processes (Problem Prevention and Continuous Improvement)

Continually anticipate where problems could occur and think of ways to prevent these from happening

Ensure all processes under his control conform to the Quality/Speed/Cost/Safety & Environment

Initiate problem solving workshops

Encourage everyone to think of ways to improve processes and prevent problems

Participate in continuous improvement processes

Monitor, adjust and report performance

Consolidate opportunities for further improvement

Plan to meet the internal and external customer requirements (PPMs & Dock Audits)

Ensure the delivery of quality products/ services

Assume accountability for the resolution of the quality problems in his/her area that are identified by the Internal and External Process Audits

Attend quality audits when required

Ensure feedback from inspections and audits communicated to the team and that the Action Plans are completed.

Ensure Groups are following effective problem-solving processes eg. The 5 Why Questions; G8Ds

Make sure that problems affecting the team outside their control are addressed eg. Ergonomics

Refer quality problems which need to be referred to other areas to the quality department with supporting data

Complete corrective action plans as required

File any documentation on problems solved in the area

Evaluate all quarantined products, scrap if deemed necessary

Manage and develop team performance

Track shift performance against set targets

Visualise and display these in each groups

Monitor the effectiveness of the teams and take corrective action

Participate in and facilitate the work team group.

Manage Workplace information

Collect information and analyse the shifts performance against Quality/Speed/Cost/Safety & Environment

Ensure Shift Changes are Handled Effectively

Training and Development

Promote multiskilling within the team

Regularly review operator progress on up-skilling, arrange for people to attend training and be signed off as competent

Liaise with the Training Department to ensure that all employees including the Labour Broker Employees are on the Training Matrix Chart

Coach and guide Team members as required

Ensure start up meetings are held prior to shift change

Ensure Shift Handover is seamless 5 minutes prior to shift change

Allow clear communication between foremen for a period not less than 30 minutes to ensure all information and documentation is handed over

Complete shift end report (i.e. Actual vs Schedule with reasons)

Report on these to the Production Manager highlighting progress, problems and recommendations

Complete Shifts Daily Problem/ Action logs

Identify and source information needs eg. Update QPS sheets etc

Work Instructions

Ensure there are clear, up to date and easy to follow work instructions for all operations and that operators are able to do the operations to standardised accredited system.

Manpower

Ensure manpower levels are correct as per set standard

Perform all counselling and disciplinary action as required

Facilities, Equipment, Tools and Materials

Assist the Team if there are any problems;

Provide Information on resource Requirements

Ensure each group has the required facilities

Ensure equipment is properly maintained

Inform Maintenance of breakdowns and record lost time; liase with maintenance to prevent possible breakdowns

Implement process changes/advice from Planning Department

Co-ordinate cleaning operations

Perform all Absenteeism Counselling and conduct Return To Work Discussions on return for all unplanned absence

Review attendance trends and take appropriate action

Control overtime

Administer HR (i.e. leave, time-sheets, pay queries, transfers, upgrades and discipline)

Housekeeping

Conduct regular 5S housekeeping audits

Ensure good housekeeping practise

Administration

Lead by example

Set and meet own work priorities

Develop and maintain a professional attitude

Complete reports required by manager within the specified deadlines

Maintain accurate filing and record keeping systems

Check product open orders daily, investigate and resolve with a sense of urgency

Sign all safety Critical Documentation for Verification each shift

Compile and administer 5S Action logs

Keep teams informed on the importance of Quality/Speed/Cost/Safety & Environment

Ensure good two-way communication between Teams and their Supervisor and between the shifts to ensure big picture understanding

Keep Team leaders well informed of happening s within production

Give recognition for good performance

Keep in touch with the shop floor, talk to people, listen to their concerns and comments and advise and counsel as appropriate

Assist in keeping the information boards updated

Safety

Access and share legislation and standards

Plan and implement safety requirements

Monitor, adjust and report safety performance

Investigate and report non-conformance

Ensure safe working practices

Report all accidents and incidents

Monitor safety hazards in the area and ensure that they are addressed

Attend safety meetings when required

Encourage Safety Representatives to fulfil their duties

Ensure that the Safety Representatives attend the Safety Meetings

Non-Response within 2 weeks indicates an unsuccessful application

Salary: R30,000.00 - R45,000.00 per month
