Role: Grounds Staff (Seasonal)*2

Location: Glasnevin Cemetery (possibly other work at Dardistown, Goldenbridge, Newlands or Palmerstown as required)

Hours: 39 hours per week + overtime

Reporting to: Funeral Services Co-Ordinator/ Grounds & Facilities Manager

Overview:

Dublin Cemeteries Trust seeks two Seasonal Full-Time Grounds Staff to work with the Grounds team to ensure that the cemetery is maintained to an excellent standard.

Ideal candidates will possess the following:

  • Previous experience in a similar role (grounds maintenance, landscaping, etc.)
  • Good communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team.
  • A strong sense of customer care and an ability to deal sensitively with customers, including the bereaved
  • A drive to learn and develop within the role
  • Competent in the use of computer systems
  • Reliable, good timekeeping and attendance

Duties

General Grounds Maintenance

  • To remove floral tributes from the memorial gardens as instructed and dispose of the dead tributes
  • To sweep or use the blowers to clean up areas of the cemetery at least three times a week picking up the debris.
  • To sweep the areas the mechanical sweeper cannot reach and remove the litter, brash and some leaves in the cemeteries to promote a litter free and tidy caring environment.
  • To empty all cemetery litter bins when required or as designated by the manager and to assist with the organisation’s recycling programme.
  • General grounds maintenance (i.e. grass cutting, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned

Customer Service

  • Maintain good relations with mourners and other visitors to the Cemetery ensuring that duties are undertaken in a professional, caring, compassionate manner befitting the occasion.
  • Adhere to the Dublin Cemeteries Trust Customer Care Policy ensuring that a professional, sensitive and caring approach is maintained in relation to the range of services provided.

Personal

  • Always attend work on time, clean, and in professionally presented work wear.
  • Once on the work site you must adhere to the organisation’s policies and procedures working in a professional manner, continuously striving for excellence offering each family compassion and choices relevant to their needs.
  • Participate in the Staff Development training on offer and performance management schemes

Ensure that all areas of the role are fully Health and Safety compliant

Work duties may develop and change over time as the needs of the organisation change. The above role description is not exhaustive.
