The offer of this temporary appointment, on an on-call, as required basis, does not guarantee any type of continued or future employment with the College, neither is there any obligation on the part of the College to assign you available work for which you may be qualified. The ending of a temporary appointment is not a discharge and is therefore not subject to the just cause provisions of Article 10.01.

Position Summary
Reporting to Dean, Arts, Science and Management, the Lab Technician prepares materials as needed for Science laboratory courses, organizes and maintains laboratory equipment and supplies, assists in supervising laboratory classes and maintains safety standards as mandated by law.

Duties & Responsibilities
1. Prepares reagents and sets up equipment for ABE, first & second year UT science labs and lectures. As well organizes the supplies for all open science courses.
2. Assists students in the correct use of equipment.
3. Assists in the supervision of laboratory classes.
4. Ensures, in partnership with instructors, that safety standards (WCB & NIC Occupational Health and Safety) are maintained in lab areas.
5. Ensures compliance with WHMIS regulations.
6. Performs monthly inspections to ensure that laboratories and storage areas are maintained in good order and that all safety equipment functions.
7. In accordance with Department of the Environment guidelines, prepares unwanted and dangerous chemicals and biohazardous materials for disposal.
8. Maintains an inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment.
9. Ensures MSDS are available and current.
10. Prepares purchase requisitions for required equipment and supplies.
11. Tests and maintains lab equipment, arranging for outside service and repair as necessary.
12. Tests new experiments and critiques written lab materials.
13. Performs other related duties as assigned by instructors and the Department Chair.
14. Works in cooperation with Lab Technicians at the other campuses.
Required Education & Experience
1. Minimum B.Sc. in an appropriate discipline.
2. Minimum two years related work experience, preferably in a research lab (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
3. WHMIS training is required.
Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities
1. Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and leadership skills are required.
2. Computer skill in word processing, database, spreadsheet, and internet applications is required.
3. Must be willing and able to work with minimal supervision & direction.
